RMRS at The Source Bar Maidstone, 20th May
One Last Party - RMRS Tropical Paradiso at The Source Bar. We're sure we speak on behalf of everyone reading this when we say that RMRS holds a place in all our hearts. For many of us this is the first event we attended back at the original stomping ground, Mojo in Chatham.
RMRS has always thrown great parties, with headliners such as Hannah Wants, Blonde & Disciples but they kept it simple this time round with the best way to say goodbye, a residents party. We can safely say every single DJ played a brilliant set as always.
Venue
It was the closing
night for RMRS but it certainly wasn't the closing of Kent's leading
underground venue, The Source Bar.
Comprising of 4
areas 3 of which where in full swing this night. The main room providing a
medium sized floor space and stage raised DJ booth, a slightly smaller covered
outdoor area called The Courtyard and an upstairs bar space used for VIP ticket
holders.
A venue close to our
hearts and home to many great nights. The Source has held parties for some of
the biggest brands and labels in the industry including Defected and Abode but
also giving local DJs a platform to showcase their upcoming labels and events.
Bar staff : Smiling,
happy and friendly. We've been here many times and rarely had any complaints
where this is concerned.
Heat : At busy
periods the main room can get slightly hotter than comfortable however there
are fans dotted around and also the courtyard is an ideal place to cool off
should you need it so it's manageable.
Drink prices : A single mixer will cost you £5.50, beers around £5 and waters at £3. Well priced and reasonable for the night and area.
Crowd : Being local to the area and an event very close to us the crowd brought a lot of local familiar faces from over the years of the event's history. Feeling like an extended family reunion the atmosphere was rocking all night and the turnout was emphatic.
Production/Sound
Sound : The venue
have recently upgraded the sound system within the main area and we certainly
approve. The compact space combined with the bass heavy speakers compliment
each other perfectly and send shivers down your spine. The outdoor area can be
slightly quieter so could benefit from a refresh too!
DJ Sets - The sets we will be covering are as follows:
Tommie-lee & Liam Haynes - We're starting to see these lads on a lot of line ups and it's no surprise as they always play a great set. After this set
they would go on to play sets at WeAreFSTVL & Dawn at Lightbox. They were
opening up the courtyard this time round, with a vocal tech house set. They
opened in brilliant fashion getting the crowd hyped and ready for the night ahead. The boys
always play to the crowd and they did exactly that, even bringing in Tommie's
track "Show Me" which brought a great response from the crowd.
FGTN Toys b2b Rob Jones - You'd think as somebody relatively new on the scene it would be a nervy occasion playing with a duo that have over a decade of experience but that wasn't the case for Rob. He was in his element matching the boys from FGTN Toys with every bass heavy techno track. He held his own throughout the set and is definitely one to watch. The crowd really took to this set with the courtyard packing out. They passed over to Panda in the best way possible, with the groovy and vocal track "Operator" by Låpsley.
Alex Niechoj b2b Micky Crist - This wasn't the first time Alex & Micky had played together and we are sure it certainly won't be the last. The boys always seem to have a great understanding of each other. This set was full of bass pumping tech house blowing the roof off the main room of The Source Bar. Our highlight of the set is when Micky dropped his new track "No Long" that will be coming out soon on Safari Records.
Panda - Panda is a multi genre DJ who can play to any type of crowd. Fortunately for us, he was playing house music. This set was something special, with a full on vocal set that had everybody in the crowd singing and dancing. With remixes of "Shakedown - At Night" , "Blackbox - Ride On Time" and Greco's "Music Sounds Better With You" he had the crowd in full swing. Panda is definitely a DJ to look out for in this scene.
K&K b2b 6ft Short - The closing set and it was a belter. To put it into words; you can tell its a good set when you're about to leave but simply can't because track after track keeps luring you back to the dance floor. These boys finished off RMRS in style with a strong mix of genres. K&K dropping their track "Peaceful Crowd" keeping the crowd locked into the sunrise as well as Inner City's - "Big fun" and the absolute classic that is Benediction by Hot Natured.
