Track Talk : Sav-E - Mikado EP, Johhny Johhny Records (JJ005)

In 2016 house & techno DJ/Producer Nico Mendez embarked on starting his own music label, leading to the birth of Johnny Johnny Records. Based in Glasgow, the label has since enlisted five EP releases, building the brand's character and chosen styles. Artists including Hatelate, Lee Webster and Nico himself have been behind the beats, with two releases entitled "Other Side of House" and "Vatican Heist" coming from the label boss.

The most recent EP to drop via the record label is a three part bundle of hefty basslines and eccentric vocals, composed by Brighton based producer Saverio Manganaro (or Sav-E for short). With a long standing history in the game, Sav is no stranger to the industry, being one of the founding fathers of his coastal home's infamous party; Blow After Hours and record labels Minimal Kids & Wired. His new EP on Johnny Johnny entitled "Mikado", delivers three records; each with their own unique and standalone sound.

From the get go, the leading track entitled "Mikado" hits with a heavy kick, progressing into some moody acid chords. With the addition of a short, snappy female vocal and increased intensity from the hefty clap line, the track is a perfect example of raw and gritty underground sound.

The two proceeding tracks also hold their own, with some stand-out features. "0533" boasts a rumbling bassline underpinning the entire track, before a brilliant futuristic synth draws us into the drop, which continues that hard bassline with the addition of some sharply cut vocals.  The final track titled "Praise" again is highlighted by some short vocals, this time in line with the title name and during the build up of the track, with a eery atmosphere leading the mechanical-esque soundscape. This final track serves as a real signpost of the unique offering which the EP brings, breaking the mould from some of the recent repetitive releases which the tech house genre has seen.

With early support from Enzo Siffredi, Dennis Ferrer, Stacey Pullen, Paco Osuna and a catalogue more, there's no doubt this bold statement from Sav-E & Johhny Johhny records will soon be pulsing through the speakers on your rave adventures.
